My Life, MY Life, My Life!
My story begins when I spent a year volunteering as class mom in Isaiah’s kindergarten class (He just started his first year of college). The classroom was full of noise, chaos, laughter, tears, spills, clutter, arguments, crowded space, stories and smiles. But to my shock, I loved it. After that first year, I was approached by a PTA board member who asked me to join the Shaw Ave Elementary (Blue Ribbon Award winning Shaw Ave) PTA Executive Board, I did. I served 6 years on the board, two as President. I also served on the Valley Stream Council of PTA’s for three years, one of which I was Co-president and one as President.
It was fascinating to witness the children learning and to see all the different learning styles. This ignited my interest in children and how the learning environment plays a part in the gaining of new knowledge. Also, to my shock, the children welcomed me openly into their classroom and showed excitement and enthusiasm when they shared stories with me. The years to come were filled with more class mom volunteering and lots and lots of fun-filled PTA events (ok some not so fun). With seven years of Elementary School events going on and being very involved in organizing so many of them, I realized that putting a smile on a child’s face is priceless.
So I decided to open up my own home daycare. My experienced Early Childhood Educator friends helped me with advice and information. The support was wonderful. I look forward to many; many years of caring for young children, while providing a positive influence in their life, as well as seeing them grow through the years with me.
